Alcohol Sales Banned at Upcoming Football Game

Officials fearing fan violence have banned alcohol sales at next Monday's football game between the New York Jets and the New England Patriots at Giants Stadium, the Boston Globe reported Dec. 20.

This decision comes in the wake of several violent incidents involving drunk and rowdy fans.

In one recent Jets game, police made nine arrests, two fans were stabbed, and a state trooper suffered a broken leg.

A court case earlier this year demanded $135 million in damages from a Giants fan and the stadium alcohol vendor, Aramark, after the man purchased six beers while intoxicated and later paralyzed a young girl in a post-game car accident.

George Zoffinger, president of the New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority, promised earlier this year to protect game-goers from drunk fans.
