Va. Bill Bans Parents from Serving Alcohol to Young Guests

Parents who serve alcohol to guests under age 21 in their homes could soon face criminal penalties in Virginia, MSNBC reported Jan. 27.

A measure sponsored by Sen. Ryan McDougle (R-Hanover) would bar parents from serving alcohol to young guests without a parent, guardian, or spouse accompanying them. Parents would still be able to serve alcohol to their own children, however.

The bill was approved by a state Senate committee last week and now moves to the Senate floor for a vote.
